Short film endings
I have decided to create three diffirent endings to my short film which i will then ask a focus group to choose the best one. This will make my film better suited to the target market and have a better overal finish. The three diffirent ending ideas are shown below:
- The first idea is that Alex will wake up at a party to find he has taken some drugs and his freinds are playing a practical joke on him by attempting to shave off his hair before they realise he is seriously ill. This will cause him further distress and result in his death.
- The second idea will be that Alexis still tripping and wakes up at a party to find he has taken an overdose of drugs and his freinds are playing a practical joke on him, however this is all just a dream and he will wake up to find there is nothing wrong with him.
- The third idea is similar to the other three however he is actually hurt and i will show more of his struggle using ambulences and the film will end with a lot of action.

You have got lots of options here. Get some audience feedback to help you decide. I prefer the use of the white background personally.

Filming problems
Unfortunatley when trying to film in scenes where i would like to have low lighting then film became pixelated. This is because the camera is trying to compensate for the poor lighting and so i have had to re-film these shots and will see if this helps.

Review development
Draft 4

Draft 3
Are drugs a real problem in society today or is this just an ideology exaggerated by the media? This film shows what worries and pressures are forced into teenage dreams by society.
Alex Ryan is just an average teenager living in a normal house in a less than normal situation. This young talented actor has shown how the most normal of situations can become utterly disturbing. His gasping breath brings a sinister reality to everyone’s worst nightmare.
What do all parents worry about when their children go out to a party? That their children will be safe? That they won’t be pressured into doing something they shouldn’t? That they won’t be taken advantage of? Typically this film conveys what happens when all goes wrong at this same party.
At first it appears that Alex has woken up to having a irritating noise in his ear. He appears confused and does what anyone in his situation would do. As he goes to wash his face and wake himself up the sound is becoming increasingly more intense.
In this, Alex Ryan’s first performance, a convincing disturbed character has been conveyed. I’m sure this will be the first in a long line of future films for this talented young man. With only a few minor blips in this short film he has shown a lot of potential.
This was only Joe Hawkins second attempt at creating a short film and from what I can see he will not struggle to get recognised. This second film is a vast improvement on his last effort and I can really see how he has developed as a young director and believe his work can reach new heights later in life.
If you like modern social issues media then this film is a great example with lots of intriguing camera work which is interesting to watch. With only a few minor errors this is a good example of some of Alex Ryan’s early acting and Joe Hawkins early directing.

Well done. Your ideas work well and I like your storyboard and look forward to seeing the different endings. You could also show your alternate endings to your focus group if you are organised!
Letter of acceptance to be filmed
The undersigned have agreed to take part in the filming of my short film and have signed to say that the film may be broadcasted on the internet.

Review layout analysis
I have been asked to create a Reveiw for my short film in the style that would be found in a magazine. This means that i cannot vary the layout very much meaning that the design shown below is quite simplistic however i know this is effective because large existing institutions have already used this style. This simplistic approach is also good as it is clear and easy to understand.

Poster layout analysis
All three of the poster layout design shown below have been inspired by the research and the real media artefacts that i have analysed. The layout designs that i have chosen have been specifically designed to have one main image that will take up the whole page whilst the text and information will me displayed on top. The image will be a still from the short film. This allows the audience some incite into what the film will be like without them having to watch the film. This style of poster has been used on huge full length feature films that have done extremely well in the industry and so it should be very effective for my short film. I cannot pick a particular design from below as i do not know what the still will look like however it will be similar to one that is shown.

Story ideas reviewed
From looking back at my research i believe that the first short film idea that i have come up with will be the most effective. "Trip" has a fairly good story line that will allow me to use a range of effective shots to produce a good end product. This idea also fits in with what my target market would like according to the questionnaires and focus group that i completed earlier. There is however a small part of this story that once reviewed needed some altering. At the end of the sequence where the main character wakes up for the third time does not work very well. i have been infomed from a third party that this seems slightly repetetive and so whilst filming i shall experiment with diffirent endings and chose the best one.
Story ideas
Trip
Alex is a young man in bed waking up to find himself with a peculiar problem. He can hear a faint buzzing sound in his ear so goes to the bathroom to wash his face and get rid of the buzzing however it continues to become more intense and the character becomes more and more distressed. The bulk of the short film will be spent in the bathroom whilst he is panicking before he eventually collapses in a pool of blood that has seeped from his ears. Alex will then wake up to find he has actually collapsed at a party and the camera will pan across to show some form of drug revealing that the character was actually tripping and it was all nightmare. His eyesight is blurry however he can vaguely make out his friends coming towards him with some sort of device that buzzes like a razor playing a practical joke which shows what he was hearing in the trip. He will then faint again and when his eyes re-open to find blue flashing lights indicating an ambulance and this is where the short film will cut out.
Party popping
A young girl is at a party and has had too much to drink. Her mind begins to blur and the rooms begins to spin as she falls in and out of consciousness. The next time she opens her eyes she is on a bridge crying debating about jumping of whilst a nearby train is flying beneath the bridge below her. As the train gets closer she becomes more distressed and the light of the train are blurring her vision. As she is at the brink of jumping the scene will cut back to the party where she will be with her friends offering her drugs showing that the story was actually the girls future if she were to take the drugs.
Dying high
A group of young boys are messing around having a few beers in the park when one of the boys pulls out a small bag of weed. The other boys are all impressed with this other than the one boy who is driving and so he refuses to take the drugs. The boys begin to persuade the driver and eventually he gives in. once in the car the boys are making fun of the driver for not wanting it at the start so he takes some more to show he is better than the rest. The next time he looks at the road there is a small animal darting in front of him. The boy swerves but loses control and the seconds he makes impact with something he is taken back to the park scene were the boy is taking out the drugs.

Product placement
Short films are created by small independent film companies and so are usually shown at film festivals and conventions. Such festivals include Cannes film festival, BFI London film festival, Cambridge film festival and Edinburgh film festival. These events allow small companies to show their product to large audiences and get recognition for their work. At most of these events awards are given to exceptionally good films and this Can give small companies enough attention to link with larger companies to create full feature length films.
Sometimes Short films are shown before full feature length films such as Pixar animations. This is a very good way of allowing large audiences to view smaller companies work as people do not have to pay to watch the films. The films cannot be bought from the same distributor as mainstream films such as HMV or superstores such as TESCOs and so they are harder to get hold of however some distributors can be found online or can be seen for free on sites such as Youtube. Although Placing your product on Youtube will not generate any revenue it means that small companies are not taken advantage of in large contracts and it is easy to get audience feedback helping them for future reference and so this is the method I will use to distribute my short film.

You need to get more research and planning up please. There is some good analysis here, but you might want to explore the synergy across the products too.
